Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

At DCIDS, we strive for all communities to feel welcome and safe with us as we reflect a model of fairness, belonging, and forward thinking. We are committed to ensuring all levels of our workplace represent the diverse communities we serve. Our resources also reflect our commitment to increased equity in transplantation and donor acceptance.

The importance of

donor diversity

A diverse population of donors is crucial because of ongoing disparities and increased rates of organ failure among communities of color.

While organs are not matched according to demographics, key criteria for donor and recipient matches, including blood type, are more often found among members of the same race or ethnicity.

Additionally, studies show that transplant success rates increase when organs are matched between members of the same ethnic and racial group.

People of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to say “yes” to donation.
