Our commitment to community engagement

At DCIDS, our vision is for all communities to feel welcome and safe with us. We are committed to ensuring all levels of our workplace reflect the communities we serve. Our resources are used to promote fairness, belonging, and forward-thinking in donation and transplantation.

The importance of

donor representation

A varied population of donors is crucial because of ongoing disparities and increased rates of organ failure among communities of color.

While organs are not matched according to demographics, key criteria for donor and recipient matches, including blood type, are more often found among members of the same race or ethnicity.

Additionally, studies show that transplant success rates increase when organs are matched between members of the same ethnic and racial group.

People of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to say “yes” to donation.
