Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) provides service to communities from the Tri-Cities to Jackson, Tennessee.  Our service area is comprised of 84 counties in Tennessee and 8 counties in south-west Virginia serving a population of 4.5 million.  TDS serves 148 hospitals and 7 transplant centers across the state.  Simply click on a region of interest and you will be linked to that site's home page.

The Interim TDS Executive Director is Jill Maxfield.

Our Medical Directors are H. Keith Johnson, M.D. (Nashville), Associate Medical Director Robert Richie, M.D. (Nashville); Mitch Goldman, M.D. (Knoxville), Daniel Fisher, M.D. (Chattanooga), Stanley Vermillion, M.D. (Mountain Region), and Associate Medical Director, Piyush Joshi, M.D. (Mountain Region).

Not only is TDS certified to provide our services by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), TDS is also accredited by the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO).  As a result of this accreditation process, TDS was awarded three Best Practices awards by AOPO.  TDS' Hospital Services department, bereavement program and medical director arrangements were all identified as being outstanding and replicable throughout the field.

 

                       TDS TIMELINE

1966 – DCI establishes Nashville Organ Donor Program with support of transplant hospitals in Nashville.

1972 – Medicare institutes coverage for ESRD patients. In response, DCI formalizes donor program naming it Nashville Regional Organ Procurement Organization (NROPA), one of the first OPOs in the country. Offices expand throughout Tennessee.

Mid 80s – NROPA among the first OPOs to expand to recover extra-renal organs.

NROPA changed its name to TDS to more accurately reflect its service area.

1992 - DCIDS established as a separate non-profit organization.

1998 - TDS incorporates the former Life Resources area, now know as Mountain Region Donor Services.

2000 - AOPO Accreditation awarded to TDS.
