DCIDS’ philosophy and approach to legal and risk management issues revolves around a commitment to the following items:
DCIDS will err on the side of caution when appropriate, and understands the need to balance legal concerns and risks with the need to conduct business in an effective and appropriate manner. Legal support is provided by in-house counsel and is available at all times to provide guidance concerning business, clinical or personnel issues. Counsel also provides a comprehensive set of inservice education programs on legal, ethical and management/personnel issues. The Risk Management program includes an occurrence reporting system with appropriate quality assurance evaluation procedures and forms. Each location provides for monthly risk management committee meetings. Adequate general and professional liability coverage with reputable carriers is secured. As evidence of DCIDS’ commitment to a proactive approach, all local transplant surgeons must pass a stringent credentialling process in order to recovery organs for DCIDS. |
