Transplant coordinators who are usually either registered nurses or physician assistants staff DCIDS organ recovery programs. Each coordinator is provided the opportunity to obtain American Board of Transplant Coordinators (ABTC) certification after their first year of employment. To date, all organ recovery coordinators that have been with DCIDS greater than one year are Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinators (CPTC). DCIDS coordinators have coordinated over 2550 organ donations since 1971. This effort has provided thousands of organs for transplant. DCIDS consistently performs above the national average in donors per million population. Our organ recovery efforts provide for both local and distant (import) recovery services. Locally, DCIDS coordinators provide the following services when a referral is made from a hospital:
DCIDS coordinators provide services to local transplant centers for non-renal organ offers from outside the local service area:
DCIDS coordinators educate hospital personnel and physicians regarding donation and transplantation. DCIDS coordinators assist with death record reviews in conjunction with hospital services personnel. |
