Our Public Education Coordinators provide organ and tissue donation education to the community through a variety of programs, ranging from grade school age through senior adults.  TDS-K utilizes several outreach programs in its efforts to educate our communities about the urgent need for organ donation.

Here are a few of the successful programs currently being offered:

bullet

Boys & Girls Clubs  TDS-K offers a fun-filled day of games and education.  With the addition of our “Superheroes”, and using the theme of, “Organ Donors Are Superheroes” we play balloon relay games with each balloon containing a “fun fact” about donation.

Scouting Patches  Through our partnership with area Boy Scouts, we are in the process of developing an education program whereby scouts can earn a donation patch for their uniforms.

Stuffee   Thanks to the addition of Stuffee, our 7 ft. tall soft-sculptured anatomical donation education doll, we have been able to expand our education efforts substantially. In conjunction with the Oak Ridge Museum of Science, Stuffee will become a permanent exhibit for the thousands of school children in surrounding counties who visit each year to not only learn about organ donation but also general health education as well.

Gift of Life Presentation This educational program, presented to hundreds of middle and high school students annually, has enabled us to reach students at a formative age and educate them about the necessity of organ donation and to provide them with the information they need to educate their families.

Kids on the Block  This is an educational effort in conjunction with the National Kids on the Block group of puppeteers who educate children beginning in grade 5 about various social issues - one of which is organ donation.
