Recognizing the adage that "you can’t manage what you can’t measure", DCIDS has made a significant investment in our Information Services department over the past six years. The goal of this department is to provide more information to every member of our organization in order to better identify problem areas or trends. This information provides the basis for continually challenging and validating our current practices as well as for identifying when, where and why changes need to be made. Information Services is the backbone for constant improvement in our organization. All DCIDS locations are client/server based with a frame relay network connecting the 7 locations. The DCIDS frame network includes telephony at all sites providing a seamless interface for corporate communications and data sharing. At present, DCIDS locations utilize ten primary modules to track hospital and donation specific data: organ referrals, tissue referrals, organ donors, tissue donors (including eye), hospital demographics, hospital personnel, laboratory tests, hospital development, death record review and bereavement follow-up for our families. The passage of state and federal laws mandating referral calls has changed the face of the data and how business is done. As our needs change, our data system will be modified to accommodate this. The information services staff strives to react quickly and accurately to all information requests from the management staff, our transplant facilities and others throughout the DCIDS service areas. Our research requests are as varied as our clients, and we are always happy to provide them with the service they seek. |
