Recognizing the need for economical access to comprehensive, individualized treatment and care for those suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD), Keith Johnson, M.D., a Nashville nephrologist, founded Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI) as a not-for-profit (501.c.3) corporation.  In response to DCI's commitment to providing a full range of services to its' patients, an organ and tissue recovery division, DCI Donor Services was established in 1972.

DCI has grown from a single dialysis clinic in Nashville to the largest not-for-profit dialysis provider in the country.  Additionally, DCI Donor Services has become one of the largest organ, eye, and tissue recovery, processing and distribution programs in the nation.

Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, DCI Donor Services was created in 1992 as a nonprofit corporation to provide administrative structure for organ and tissue recovery organizations that wish to utilize the benefits of a cohesive framework to improve their level of service to their communities.  Today, DCIDS has one of the largest organ and tissue recovery programs in the nation with ten organ and tissue recovery offices and provides 24 hour availability of surgical and technical staffs to identify, recover, preserve and transport organs and tissues for transplantation.
