TDS partners with a variety of organizations to provide education offerings for the public.  Below are a list of education partners that are used throughout the TDS system.  Please link to a specific TDS or DCIDS site to find out more about specific offerings in your area.

TN County Clerks Organ Donor Awareness Foundation

In April 1994, Governor Don Sundquist signed legislation allowing for voluntary donations to be collected at the time of vehicle registration or renewal. This legislation, lobbied for by the Tennessee County Clerks Association provided for the formation of the Tennessee County Clerks Organ Donor Awareness Foundation. The voluntary donations are collected by the clerks in each county and then deposited into the “fund” exclusively for public education and awareness. The Foundation is a charitable organization through the Clerks Association and Tennessee Transplant Society (TTS). The organization is managed by a board of directors comprised of county clerks and representatives of the TTS who will appropriate funds for public education in the form of television, radio, print and outdoor advertising.

Kids on the Block

“The Kids on the Block” (KOB) is an independent organization that provides education to school age children about donation and transplantation through the use of puppetry. TDS sponsors the KOB in 7 different locations within the service area. Those locations are Chattanooga, Cleveland, Crossville, Jackson, Knoxville, Maryville, & Nashville. Our current mechanism for evaluating this program is to obtain feedback from KOB puppeteers on child audience response and review of teacher evaluations. TDS has earned a reputation in the OPO and transplant community for innovation due to this program’s development.

NASCAR

Since 1998, TDS has had the opportunity to promote donation through the most rapidly growing spectator sport - NASCAR. Busch Grand National Teams, along with supporters Dr. Pepper and Food City, have carried the donation message to tens of thousands of race fans. Printed materials highlight Davey Allison and John Nemechek, whose organ donations saved many lives.

Tennessee Rotary Clubs

Through the support and initiative of Rotarians throughout Tennessee, the Share Your Life - Give of Yourself project has spread to other clubs throughout the country to send a uniform message about donation.

Tennessee Titans

The Give Thanks Give Life program was initiated in the fall of 2000 by the National Football League and the U.S. Senate. Tennessee Titans officials worked diligently with TDS to arrange a special acknowledgment highlighting pediatric recipients, a “Titans” uniform donor card, and a public service announcement featuring Titans head coach, Jeff Fisher and Senator Bill Frist, M.D.. The PSA continues to run throughout TDS service areas. TDS hopes to continue this partnership in years to come.

BiLo Boosters Program

The BiLo food chain’s “Boosters Program” has recently made TDS a recipient of funds available through this outreach program. When customers use their BiLo Bonus Card and select TDS as their charitable organization, a percentage of their purchase is slated as a public education donation to TDS. This project is in the beginning stages so more details will be available as it takes shape.

University of Tennessee

TDS and the UT Philosophy Department offer a comprehensive special topics course about organ and tissue donation. The course, “Issues in Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation,” explores current religious, ethical and legal issues, as well as providing basic information necessary to understand the complexities of organ and tissue donation.

Coalition on Donation

Founded in 1992, the Coalition on Donation is a not-for-profit alliance of local affiliates and national organizations that have joined forces to educate the public about organ and tissue donation, correct misconceptions about donation and create a greater willingness to donate. This unprecedented alliance of national and local members fosters communication and cooperation in the transplant community. TDS is a member of the Coalition and utilizes Coalition printed materials, billboards & PSAs.

Kidney Foundation

For many years, TDS has coordinated awareness projects with kidney foundations throughout Tennessee.
